A north Hyderabad pickup for a south-west pilgrimage
Kompally is a residential suburb in north Hyderabad. Mantralayam, by contrast, lies south-west near the Andhra Pradesh-Karnataka border, so a Kompally pickup crosses the city via the Outer Ring Road before joining the highway south — a longer initial stretch than a pickup already positioned on the south side of the city.
Mantralayam itself is the site of the Brindavanam, or samadhi, of Sri Raghavendra Swamy, a 17th-century Madhwa saint and philosopher revered across South India, particularly among Telugu and Kannada-speaking devotees. The shrine sits on the banks of the Tungabhadra River, roughly 250 km from Hyderabad — generally a 5 to 6 hour drive, plus the Kompally-to-city crossing beforehand, so an earlier departure helps offset the extra distance.
Some pilgrims also visit the Panchamukhi Anjaneya Temple, around 20 km from Mantralayam — a five-headed Hanuman shrine associated with a period Raghavendra Swamy spent in meditation there before settling at Mantralayam.
